How would I identify it?
General Description
This aquatic, herbaceous plant grows partially or completely submerged. Roots need to be attached to substrate at the bottom of the water, as it does not typically float on its own in the water column.
Flower Description
Three, diamond-shaped petals coming out from a light or bright green center. Will grow single or small bunches of flowers at the ends of stalks that emerge from the water surface.
Leaf description
Heart, arrow, or lance shaped green leaves that can emerge from the water surface on a short stalk.
Stem description
Flowers and leaves grow on small, round, green stems that emerge from the water surface.
Where does it grow?
Fully or partially submerged in lakes, ponds, wetlands, and slow-moving bodies of water. Can survive in saline or brakish water.
How Does it Reproduce?
Seed and vegetative fragments floating to new waterbodies.
